1, 2 or 4 suits: what changes

Any card can go on a card one rank higher, whatever its suit. But only a run of one suit moves as a block, and only a K-to-A run of one suit leaves the table. With 1 suit every descending run counts. With 2 or 4 suits a pile of mixed suits has to be taken apart card by card, so columns lock up much sooner.

How many deals our solver finishes

We gave our solver the same search budget on every deal it tried. It finished 61.3% of 1,000 1-suit deals, 54.7% of 1,000 2-suit deals and 50.3% of 1,000 4-suit deals.

A deal the solver doesn't finish isn't proven unwinnable: the search keeps only the most promising positions and stops at a fixed limit. So these are lower bounds, not the odds of winning. The solver also tries moves just to see which card turns over and takes them back, as if it had unlimited undo, so the numbers show what is possible rather than how hard each level feels.

New game and the daily and monthly challenges only use deals the solver finished: 389 with 1 suit, 377 with 2 suits and 369 with 4 suits. Each one has a winning line from the opening deal.
